Arabic–English translation is one of the steadiest career paths for Keralites in the Gulf. But how much do translators actually earn in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar? Below are the published salary survey ranges, what moves you up the range, and how to get started.

All figures are monthly gross pay from public salary surveys and job listings checked in October 2026. Actual offers vary by employer, experience and visa package — treat these as a guide, not a promise.

UAE

Paylab's UAE survey puts most translators between AED 8,825 and AED 23,082 a month. Job listings show the spread clearly: Arabic–English typist and junior translator roles have been advertised at around AED 2,000–3,000, while translator roles at larger and government-linked employers have been listed at AED 8,000–12,000 including allowances. Legal translators who are licensed to certify translations sit at the upper end of the market.

Saudi Arabia

Paylab's Saudi survey shows most translators and interpreters earning SAR 3,938 – 11,580 a month. Specialist and embassy roles can pay more — for example, a translator post at the Indian Embassy in Riyadh was advertised starting at SAR 7,200, on a scale up to SAR 17,640.

Qatar

In Qatar, Paylab reports a range of roughly QAR 8,312 – 16,215 a month for translating and interpreting roles, with an average around QAR 12,000.

What moves you up the range

  • Legal and official documents. Contracts, court papers and certificates pay more than general content because mistakes are costly.
  • Speed and formatting. Employers value translators who can type fast in both Arabic and English and deliver a properly formatted Word document.
  • Licensing. In the UAE, legal translations for courts and government are certified by licensed legal translators — a senior, well-paid role.
  • A portfolio. Real translated samples (with personal data removed) beat a certificate alone in interviews.

Where translators work

Legal translation offices, typing and attestation centres, law firms, government departments, embassies, hospitals, banks and large companies with Arabic-speaking clients — in Kerala and across the GCC.

How to start from Kerala

  1. Build a strong Arabic and English base (grammar, vocabulary, reading).
  2. Train on real legal documents with correction from experienced translators.
  3. Learn Arabic and English typing and MS Word formatting to professional speed.
  4. Build a small portfolio, then apply to translation offices and documentation centres in Kerala or the Gulf.
